Ambition

I want my own late show
I want my name to shine brighter than Jay Leno
I want to hear myself in every crescendo
As the band plays me into your home

I want to befriend so
I can interview the stars that I don’t know
And ride around this town in cars that I don’t own
Because I’m driven wherever I go

Oh can’t you see
Fame and fortune is my destiny
I believe
That I am breaking all the molds

There’s got to be
A time slot that’s just right for me
Irresponsibly
I am barring all the holds

Perhaps it is prime time
That will best suit my ambition for star shine
And take me to the outer limits of my mind
And show the world that I am worth all the gold

I’ll make a great promo
A little modern and a little bit retro
I’ll sing Cher like to a fake Sonny Bono
And take the world in an unbreakable hold

Please sponsor me
I have a vision and it must succeed
Decidedly
I am feeling rather bold

I am a force
To be reckoned with in due course
If you get in my way
Then you’re likely to get rolled

Or maybe a game show
In early evening as the sun is sinking low
I‘ll show that Alex Trebek all that I know
And hand out prizes to contestants with glee

I’ll build up the drama
With bizarre questions about Vasco de Gamma
My prize model will ride in on a lama
While wearing nothing but the leaves of a tree

I want nothing more
Than to serve my public who adore
Me to the core
It’s the least that I can do

It would be such a shame
If I am forced forever to refrain
From staking my claim
To the heavenly skies of blue

One day I’ll get cancelled
And barricade myself in my Hollywood castle
And tell the papers that they’re all such a hassle
But don’t stop coming by for stories and tea

It will be in the tabloids
My abduction by alien androids
Who came all this way to measure my thyroid
To find my secret to success finally

I’ll have it made
Fame and fortune is my stock and trade
I’ll go under the blade
To insure my major role

I'll reach the same shore
as all the gods that came here before
Like the soup du jour
That comes with the perfect roll

And I will live for evermore
